The best time to visit Selous Game Reserve is during the dry season, from June to October.During these months, the weather is consistently warm and sunny, with very little rainfall. This makes for excellent wildlife viewing as animals congregate around the remaining water sources, such as the Rufiji River and its tributaries. The vegetation is also less dense, which improves visibility for spotting animals. The migratory birds arrive, and the landscape is lush and green after the first rains. While there might be occasional showers, they usually don't disrupt activities significantly. The long wet season, from March to May, sees heavy rainfall, which can make some areas of the reserve inaccessible due to muddy roads and high water levels. Many camps close during this time, and wildlife viewing can be challenging.
